Yeah, I must say, I was kinda surprised that anything worked at all with the 'wrong' headers for my kernel, but I guess that's the magic of linkers or somesuch. It's all too much for me.

Anyway, the followinh headers appear to be available :

media root # emerge -a linux-headers

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild   R   ] sys-kernel/linux-headers-2.6.8.1-r2

Do you want me to merge these packages? [Yes/No] n

Quitting.

media root #

Obviously, my system is running the 2.6.8, as emerge shows it as a 'R'e-emerge.

 

Ok, that's good info.  So, as I've never done anything with the
linux-headers before, I'm unclear how that relates to the kernel and
when I should upgrade.  Do the version numbers mirror those of the
kernel?
