I was also in your situation not long ago, actually still am in the
learning curve with Linux. Go with Jarrod's guide on installing Myth
on a Fedora system it was enough spoon feeding to get me up and
running rather quickly.

After using Jarrod's guide I felt comfortable enough to try an Xbox
using Xebian and it also has gone relatively smoothly. Don't get me
wrong I've still been frustrated but information and people on this
list have been great and very open and willing to help.
