The driver lies. It's not the only one, I found the IEG chips claimed a larger window too but could not draw more than 1280 wide as I recall. Until HDTV came along, nobody really tested xvideo scaling circuits with wider than 1600 I suspect, so it's harder to get than one would think. I don't know if ati's proprietary linux drivers help in this area. We do need lists of "what doesn't work" to add to the lists of what does work.
