Have you tried playing the video on some computer other than your Myth
box? Do you get the same effect there?

If the problem only appears on your Myth box, it's most likely your
playback (Xv) brightness/contrast/color/hue settings on your Myth box.
To fix them, see "F" at
    http://mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-11.html#ss11.1
    <http://mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-11.html#ss11.1> .

If the problem exists on the other computer, it's probably the
    recording
brightness/contrast/color/hue settings. To fix them, see "G" at
    http://mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-11.html#ss11.1 or use
    MythWeb|Settings|Channels to reset them--mine all show 32768 and I've
    never modified them.

Yes.. that's exactly what my values show also.
I've never tried to pop it into a windows box, but I'll give it a try.
I'm pretty sceptical about it not being ivtv problem as video sometimes is Perfect!

No need to put the PVR in a Windows box. Just copy a recorded video that has bad spots over to any other computer (could be Windows or could be another Linux box). We just need to test playback. It's quite possibly that incorrect Xv picture adjustments could cause some pictures (with lots of white) to look bad and others (with very little white) to look good.
