I'm running a stock 2.6 Ubuntu Hoary kernel. Haven't had much luck with
compiling my own kernel, but found a good Debian tutorial so will give
it a try. Where should I look for pre-emptible in the kernel config?

Are you running a pre-emptible kernel? That made my remote (a home brew
one, on a serial port) much more responsive.

So I've finally got my myth box up and running.
Everything is running pretty smoothly, however I am using an X10 5in1
remote and am finding that it is a bit slow to respond sometimes.
While this is ok for main menus, scrolling through my lists of music or
videos gets a bit tedious.
Does anyone know if I can tweak anything in lirc to speed this up or
alternatively recommend another remote that works well with lirc and
has a jog dial (or some other scrolling feature)?
