I highly doubt it...  Not necessarily that I doubt you heard it, but
rather the people claiming it were a bit 'up in the night'.  Even if
it WERE company policy (which it is very unlikely with a reputable
company such as the ones noted) customer service would be the last
person to tell you that.  It may slip out of the CEO's mouth during a
golf tourney, but the customer service calls are randomly monitored,
and I doubt they'd put their job on the line to give away "company
secrets".  ;)
