Typically those ir ports on the back of cable boxes are so the cable box
can control the VCR with something like this:

and not the other way around.

I can't comment on your setup but I'm controlling a 3200 (also
rogers) with one of these:

and it works great. Only problem is telling if the 3200 is on or off,
sometimes I send an unnecessary poweron code and it ends up turning

I'm using this on my Scientific Atlanta 3100 and having good results
also. Does anybody know if I can use the litte port marked "IR" on
the back or the USB port on the front to control it?
