I have automatic commercial detect and skip set. The detection works extremely well, I can use the skip forward and back buttons with no issues and the flagged points are generally fairly accurate.
Unfortunately, the automatic skipping doesn't work quite properly, as I must press the button to make it skip. I go into the menu and look at commercial flagging, and automatic skip is indeed checked. I'm running the CVS as of a few days ago, but I had the same problem with 0.18.1.
