Because screensavers exhibit patterns. They are loops. It varies per screensaver, but there are ones that are never touch the corners(window's mystify, bouble - anything that bounces on the edges are statistically more likely to wear the middle and seldom venture into the corners)
The thing we are going to go for is no pattern. Static is best, but hard to come by. Real TV samples switched regularly is the next best.
