Well the tuner just started working out of no where so that was cool. In
response to the TV freezing I found another post somwhere that informed
me that
if mythbackend starts before the ivtv driver is loaded the mythfrontend
live tv
wil not work. I am making sure now that ivtv loads before mythbackend. Hope
that helps someone else.

You probably need to look at what's happening with your tuner module.
Try looking at the output of dmesg or grepping through
/var/adm/messages. On Debian Sarge, I had to remove the tuner.ko that
comes with the stock kernel so modprobe would pick up the ivtv
tuner.ko I had installed. Also remember to check for the same
collision with msp3400.ko (which is a documented problem).
After you're sure you're loading the correct tuner module, you may
need to pass an option to it to set the tuner type. tveeprom will
usually report in dmesg or messages what tuner type it sees.
