Greets.

I'm using MythTV (0.18.1-r) and xine (xine-lib 1.0-r2 and xine-ui 0.99.3) on my x86 Gentoo 2005.0 box to play back DVDs. I'm also using kernel 2.6.12-r4 and xorg-x11 6.8.2-r2 with the radeon XFree86 driver. The output of xvinfo shows everything looks great. The window manager is a basic KDE 3.4.1 install.

The system hardware is a Pundit bare bones with PCI ATI 9200 (R280 chip, onboard video disabled), SB Audigy2 ZS,, P4 2.80GHz, and 512MB of RAM. Plenty of power for xine and DVD playback and normally not a problem. :)

The problem is when subtitles or Closed Captions are enabled that xine playback of the DVD seems to stutter just at the moment when the text appears on the screen. This happens every time new text appears on the screen and is most noticeable when the camera is panning across backgrounds or as the camera follows a group of people walking down a hall way. I've run xine with the bug-report option and don't see any error output when the problem shows up.

If I exit from MythTV and use xine from a xterm to play back the same DVD with subtitles or Closed Captions I don't see the problem. In other words, xine launched from outside of MythTV shows no stutter problems with the DVD playback where xine launched from within MythTV shows a problem with stuttering on DVDs when subtitles or Closed Captions are enabled. In both cases the command line for xine is "xine -pf --no-splash dvd://" and the xine config file is set to use XV for video and ASLA passthrough the SPDIF for audio.

Anyone want to take a stab at what's going on here? Does mythtvfrontend do something with the XV overlay that might cause this problem?
