try the following command at the prompt
 
"ivtvctl -I"   (thats, capital "eye" ) and u will know if u have any signal
 
use ptune-ui.pl to know if the frequency table gets u any signal.
 
open a new shell-window, and type
"ptune-ui.pl"
 
open another shell window, and type
"mplayer -vo x11 /dev/video0"
 
whenever u change a channel on ptune-ui, u will see the frequency on the ptune shell window.
if u can watch a channel, then u know the frequnency to use. Use frequency-ID's , which u can see in the same window.
eg. E3, E4, S29, etc... check out ids for ur country.
