I want to make sure that I can play a backed up DVD off the hard disk and utilize the video card to do all the heavy lifting.  I want an AGP card.  I'm looking at the nVidia MX4000 chipset, but I notice that about 100 people make them.  Does it matter which one I get?  This is the best bargain I can find:

(Cheapest card with both DVI and S-Video out) ... and for only $4.50 more it has double the memory of this one:

Has any one had experience with 3rd party nVidia cards?  Any experience play DVD backups off the HD?

Richard,

I have just about an identical setup to what you're looking at, however I opted to go the dedicated Video Card Route.. using an nVidia FX5200 and downgrading to the PVR-250. I am not disappointed in the least bit, and can say that this will handle just about anything you throw at it. If you're thinking about going the Celeron route, why not go with the Sempron? Cache isn't going to play a huge difference, especially since your capture card will be handling the encoding. The only problem I forsee with either a sempron or celeron in the future is with HDTV decoding. It might be able to handle one stream, as a FE/BE.

Either way, I think you'll be pleased. Good luck!
