The advantage of a separate graphics card is better video acceleration. Onboard video might not have the power to decode video without dropping frames, especially when it comes to HD. While the digital interface might give you similar image quality between thte two the external card might still have the advantage. Of course there are probably plenty of people out there to tell you that onboard graphics work fine for them. -- I probably still have a few (well, now a whole bunch) gmail invites.
