It depends. Once you've set up the backend, you have no
reason to really be on the backend. All functionality for
scheduling and such is done through either a frontend or
MythWeb.
If you have a really crappy 10mb hub, you might have a problem
with latency, but even then I doubt it.
I'm not sure what emulator plugin you're talking about, other
than the ds filters for playing nuv files on Windows (aka WinMyth).
Or would it better for me to install the frontend and
backend on the same computer? wich means for me
to spend extra money on buying a silent computer.
The backend is where the tuners are. That's it. If you have
a need for complete quiet, then putting the frontend and
backend in the same machine will cost you a lot of money.
Or, you'll be searching for deals on quiet hard drives, quiet
fans, heat pipes, etc...
Hope there are some people out there who can clear a
few things up for me, regarding the frontend.
This is list full of opinions. You choose which ones are
worthwhile to listen to.
My setup consists of:
mediamvp in my bedroom
Frontend in the kitchen
Frontend in the family room
combined frontend/backend in the media room
backend in the utility room
I have a single tuner (pvr-150) in the backend with lots
of drive space (about 2tb of space). I have
another server with another 1.5tb of space for
ripped DVDs, mounted to all frontends. The combined
frontend/backend has 2 tuners (2 pvr-250s) and
an hd tuner (pchdtv3k) and does all its recording
to the master backend, but has a small 20gb drive
because I'm too stupid to figure out how to nfs
mount it ;-).
I love myth. I just wish I had more time to get the
frontend/backend machine to be aware of the other
backend. Maybe some day soon I'll dive back in
a figure out what I did wrong.

Thanks for the replies,
I have standing an AMD 1800+ Athlon 512MB in my basement, think I will
buy a tuner to put in there. and connect the tv cable to that machine.
And use a front end on my own room.
What is the best hardware configuratiion for the front end? 800Mhz 256MB
enough? because it only needs to stream the video...
