I had the same problem with the MythCenter theme, no end of fiddling, so
I edited the theme .xml file,
in my case it was /usr/share/mythtv/themes/MythCenter/theme.xml
Find the <fontsize> tag, and decrease/increase as necessary.
You will have to change to another theme and then back to see the changes.
Worked like a charm :)

Yes. I've tweaked X11's display size and tried whatever other fixes
have come along but none of them helped.
