the formal myth tv install (how to) manual has a pretty good section on
choosing cpu power, various tasks, resolution etc.

if you buy the right video capture and display cards,  most of the
encode and decode processing can be done on those cards leaving the
central processor to just handle the file i/o and os duties.

If you want these done in software then you might be forced to stick
with the lower hd resolutions.  The celeron will be pushed a bit for hd
in software.

Best to try it out before you drop the big bucks on a processor you may
not even need.
