I should have been a little more clear in my initial question. I was aware of the fact that the minimalist-wide screen was for HD. I do in fact have an HD Tv. However, I'm 99% sure mine only supports 480p and 1080i (hence my 2nd response). Based on other responses, I'm going to check the DPI as soon as I get home. > > > What JDS is saying is that there's no reason to use a "Desktop > Environment" (i.e. KDE /or/ GNOME - see > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desktop_environment ) for a machine that's > not a desktop. [snip] Understood. Like I said, I ran without a desktop "environment" (GNOME / KDE) a while back and had focus issues. I think I even briefly tried TWM, although I can't be sure. Since I'm having strange DVD / CD issues which could be caused by the desktop environment trying to be "too" smart and grabbing the device, I think it's time to go back and explore something like TWM, ratpoison, or other. Thanks, Brian
