Dave:
I've got the same problem as you - can't give up DirecTV (b/c of
football), but am struggling with not being able to record dish-only
HD channels.

I'm glad to find out I'm not alone.  I'd like to find a group of people dedicated to solving this problem.   Most posts I find are concerning Free, unencrypted satellite or OTA broadcasts.  I'm Happy to pay for my satellite service for the premium channels (as it is football season) but I want to use myth instead of my lousy tivo.  I looked through the past postings concerning 169time and share the frustration with their product, but right now it seems like the only solution.

Some additional info... I wrote to 169time and they were kind enough to write back.  For what it's worth, here is the transcript...

Subject: HDVR and AVX1

I've poured over your FAQ which is extensive and great, but I still  have a little confusion over the AVX1.

I want to record my DirecTV content to a hard drive via mythtv.  The  AVX1 appears to be a tape device.  Do I actually need to use a tape  in the deck to get digital content from the STB to my Hard Drive?

Do you have any dual line receivers?  Or would I need to purchase two whole systems?

We are putting together a package for Myth TV based recording but this isn't shipping yet.  Work is processing right now on this.
Hard drive recording is already working using either a stand alone LG3410A or a Windows XP PC.
The AVX1 is not a recording device itself, but makes the firewire signal compatible with various recording devices.

To get two data streams for simultaneous recording, two upgraded receivers are needed.  We can offer a discount for  that.

Does that help?
