This week many of the new fall programs are starting. Current SVN has features to help you find these new shows so that you could record the first episode to see if you like it or set a recurring rule for things you expect you will want to watch.
The first place to look in any recent version of myth is Schedule Recordings->Search Lists->New Titles. This lists all the show titles that have not appeared in your listing before or at least in the past year. If you press Home or End a couple of times, there is a view called "Series". For current SVN with Data Direct, there is also a view called "Premieres". This includes specials and episode 1 of series that are shown on their original air date. IOW, the first day they are ever shown. Right now, many of these series have the subtitle "Pilot". You can press Enter to set any type of rule for any of the shows that interest you. A more sophisticated approach is possible with current SVN. In Schedule Recordings->Custom Record, there is an example for "First Episodes". http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-11.html#ss11.8 You can set a record rule to record all first episodes of any new series. However, this may be overwhelming. In "Scheduling Options" you can set "This recording scheduler is inactive". The result is that reminders for all the new series will be included on your Upcoming Recordings page in white with the status character "x" for Inactive. You can then highlight anything you would like to see, press Enter and click "Record anyway". One limitation is that you cannot set a new recurring rule on that showing because it is already associated with the First Episodes rule. You can, however, press "O" for the list of showings and set your recurring rule on any of the other future showings. -- bjm
