HI!

I have 2 drives: 160 GB + 120 GB. LVM with XFS.

If one of my drives starts failing (using SMART monitoring), I just add a new drive (probably 250 GB) and let LVM shuffle all blocks from the failing drive to the new drive.

If the new drive is bigger than the failing drive, I extend LVM and expand XFS.

So, what's the problem? Why do I need shrinking at all? I always can get a new HD with at least the size of the failing one.

Thomas
