HI! I have 2 drives: 160 GB + 120 GB. LVM with XFS.
If one of my drives starts failing (using SMART monitoring), I just add a new drive (probably 250 GB) and let LVM shuffle all blocks from the failing drive to the new drive.
If the new drive is bigger than the failing drive, I extend LVM and expand XFS.
So, what's the problem? Why do I need shrinking at all? I always can get a new HD with at least the size of the failing one.
