There's been some discussion about the D10-300 on byopvr, and the DTVcontrol site (previously linked to re: home media cables) lists the D10-300 as NOT compatible
http://www.dtvcontrol.com/index.aspx?content=compat Now is that because the serial port is hidden and the DTVcontrol maintainer hasn't noted the "behind the sticker" issue? Or is it further disabled than that? Furthermore, has the whole D10 (regardless of 100/200/300) fixed the "unable to use serial cable for channels under 100" issue brought upon by a recent DirecTV firmware update still an issue? (it even snared the series 2 TiVo STB owners with that snafu/issue) I too suggest getting a used known good serial controllable DirecTV receiver off ebay or the like... BUT am intersted in peoples experiences with the D10-300 and serial control and/or if they found a code/setting for IR blasting... as the question keeps resurfacing in general. Thanks! (hope I didn't confuse the issue or aren't too OT) BTW, re: the USBUIRT, I don't think you "train" the usb-uirt in the manner you're thinking -- I don't know how it works as I don't own one... Also, if you didn't get the 56khz receiving version of the usbuirt, that could also be why it's not "seeing" your direcTV remote, but that's just a not-so-educated guess on my part!
