I had the same problem with my Firefly remote. Basically it means that
the kernel model that you need is not loaded or is loaded incorrectly.
With me, I had to load the module lirc_atiusb before I was able to get
it to work.
Try running lirc-reconfigure.sh You may want to use google to figure
out what drivers will work with your remote.
Good luck

Hi again,
MythTV is up and running! The osd is showing what I want it to, ALSA
sound works and shows record. It is a joy to behold!
Unfortunaltely I'm still not having success with lirc 0.7.2 and my usb
remotec bw6130.
I've posted this to the lirc list with no response, so wonder if anyone
here has some tips on what to do next.
Lirc configures and compiles fine, and configue completes reporting that
kernel modules are not necessary. Install also goes fine, and I have
copied the debian daemon startup script to /etc/init.d/lirc.
if I start lirc I get this:
# cat /var/log/lircd
Sep 28 12:16:25 mythbox lircd 0.7.2: lircd(bw6130) ready
Sep 28 12:16:25 mythbox lircd 0.7.2: accepted new client on /dev/lircd
Sep 28 12:16:25 mythbox lircd 0.7.2: initializing '/dev/lirc'
Sep 28 12:16:25 mythbox lircd 0.7.2: unable to open '/dev/lirc'
Sep 28 12:16:25 mythbox lircd 0.7.2: caught signal
I have these nodes in /dev:
# ls -la /dev/ |grep lirc
crw-rw---- 1 root root 61, 0 Sep 22 12:18 lirc
srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 Sep 28 12:17 lircd
prw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 Aug 10 14:29 lircm
I think the trouble is that lircd should connect to a usb node, but I
don't know how to find out which one... if that is correct.
Can anyone throw any light on this?
Thanks
Marius
