On the other hand, having a running backend process allows the machine
to help transcoding and commercial flagging, which, as long as the
frontend is fast enough, can be a great thing, especially during the
fall season. :)

Is remote transcoding supposed to be working now? 

I've been getting errors and fails about remote transcoding being disabled and haven't cared enough to look into it.
