I don't think the MCE version of the card comes with an IR receiver, so
you'd need to get some sort of receiver first.
For Hauppauge cards that do have a receiver, other remotes can be made
to work with them. For instance, just today I got a $17 URC-6131
remote working with my PVR-250, with the help of this site:

anyone know of a remote control receiver that can be purchased sans-remote
that works with lirc and can receive a wide range of IR remote frequency's? I
already own an MX-500 and URC remote that I want to use, and I can set them
to use any number of devices, I just want to get a IR receiver that will work
that doesn't cost $40 like the Streamzap.
I bought a receiver from www.home-electro.com that works great, but it's
about $40...no help to you, I guess.
