u know, I've been giving this Digimatrix thing some thought, and for ~$100
more you could have a very nice Silverstone or Ahanix case with a newer mobo.
Consider that the Digimatrix requries you to buy a cpu, memory, a HD and a
optical drive, its basically a mobo and case. For ~$250 for the HTPC case
~$60-100 for a mobo and ~$50 for a PSU you've got basically the same thing.
I think the Silverstone and Ahanix cases are much nicer anyway and worth the
slight increase in cost.

You do get an optical drive with the Digimatrix. You also get a heat pipe CPU cooler. I think the main benefit of the DM is it's quietness. It has only one fan, and it is a small one at that. The PSU is basically a laptop power adapter. It sits outside the box so heat is diminished as well. But the DIY factor is almost too good to pass up. It's true that if it did 1080p more people would jump on it. It already has some darn good Linux support. If the Ahnix case (or silverstone) could be as quiet as the DM, it would be in the running. Those cases are also kind of big. I have even thought of finding a 1U case that could be a FE. You could use the AGP riser boards to move the AGP card to a horizontal position to better fit. I haven't found any though. Has anyone else though along these terms and found something they like?
