If it's of any consolation, I'm sitting with the same problem with an X300. I couldn't manage to get any driver to give xv output, although I never tried vidix/gatos(not sure if this supports my card even). The 'radeon' driver in xorg worked with my 9700pro, but this is agp and the machine I need HDTV playback in is pci-express.
