How about trying one of the "quickstart" distros like KnoppMyth or MythDora. Personally, I moved away from the Mandrake based distros a while ago. Too much overhead. If you're feeling up to the challenge, you can install Gentoo and create a truly customized Myth install. It's what I run on my laptop.
