I've done other evil things with computer equipment. I ran an old
P3-600 (Slot 1) without a CPU fan for about a year, 24/7. I yanked the
fan off an old ATI Radeon card that was annoying me, leaving almost no
heatsink whatesoever, and it's *still* running in my stepmom's PC. But
this was with fairly expendable hardware.

Most likely problem is overheating due to lack of airflow, would would
pretty quickly result in things like temperature alarms and crashes.
More insidious, it is my personal belief that running a hard drive hot
will shorten its life, as I've lost a few SCSI drives that ran 24/7 in
an un-airconditioned room after shorter-than-expected times.

So, I wouldn't want to put a snazzy new awesome frontend in a locker,
but if I had serious space or noise problems, I'd probably give it a
shot. :)
