So I moved over to my frontend (to see if the HD stream was going to choke the network). The frontend is a VIA/ASUS based Compaq with a socket A Sempron 3000/512mb mem. Video is an ATI 9600 with the fglrx driver from Livna.org. This PC has been configured from ATRPMS packages as well. Allthough this version of myth seems to be updated from the one installed on the backend.
Playback of material across the network that had been previously recorded on the backend using a bttv card worked fine. Xv accellerated playback was checked in the frontend config (and it works-checked proc. util with and w/o xvmc checked in myth). Playback of manual captures from the air2pc (cat) also worked for the most part (using xine or mplayer from the commandline).
When I try to open a recorded HD show or live tv, I get a failed to initialize comment and myth goes back to the mail menu. terminal Output using -v playback, audio and some others is below.
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ mythfrontend -v playback,audio,libav

So, does anyone have any ideas? When I play back the old SD recordings from the bttv card, using the same verbose output it connects to Xv port 67. But nothing for HD. This ATI driver is pretty new (10/14?), so I suppose it could be a flaw there. If I disable Xvmc in mythfrontend, the HD stuff will playback, but very choppy/slow with 95% processor utilization.
I'm thinking that another $40-50 on a Nvidia 5200-5600 would be a decent investment-but feel like something is broken somewhere and don't just want to throw new hardware at it. Plus, I have another box slated to become a frontend (currently my big Dell Gen 3 MCE box) that has an X800SE Radeon. Hate to have to replace that one too.
Thanks,
Robert
