You have to manually configure the M179. See Jarod Wilson's guide

I would consider the ivtv mailing list and wiki the authoritative
source on ivtv questions rather than Jarod's FC guide, or even the
MythTV HOWTO. If you check the ivtv resources you'll see that as of
0.4.0 the M179 is autodetected. You don't have to manually specify
the tuner anymore.
