This is probably related to a via-rhine issue.
Within your kernel source tree do:
vi drivers/net/via-rhine.c
Find this section and comment out the WOL line (on my version
of the source it was line 1938):

Once I have a working kernel I don't upgrade it unless there
is a security fix, so for me this should be a one time deal.
Also, would you mind telling me what your memory usage is
on the front end? In particular the RES and SHR columns as
reported by top.
