Once you get mythtv setup and get your recordings scheduled for the
shows everyone wants to watch, you will find that it will be rare that
anyone wants to watch live TV. They will simply go to the recorded
shows that have already been commercial flagged and watch those. And
you don't need a tuner available to watch recorded shows.

I have found that four tuners seems to eliminate almost all conflicts.
Have had only one so far that could not be resolved. You do need to
understand that you might not get a particular show the first time it
airs, you may have to wait a couple of days when they repeat it.

You will probably also want to setup a splitter to take the cable feed
directly to the TV so you have inputs from the mythtv frontend as well
as the cable system. IMHO trying to channel surf with mythtv is
probably not going to be acceptable to most people. It is easier to
just switch directly to the cable input and use the TVs tuner to channel
surf. There have been several discussions on this topic in this list.
But as I said before, once everyone gets used to the fact that a show
they want to watch is available as a recording the won't be channel
surfing that much if at all.
