You shouldn't need to specify a modeline, although many users do to
get total control over the output. Because you say your desktop and
MythTV GUI are OK, are you changing resolution when playing video?
Not as far as I know.
Actually I am confused about what controls what here, because I had an
idea that a file called XF86Config-4 or something like that, defined how
the X system worked.
XFree uses XF86Config-4. X.org uses xorg.conf with links to provide
backwards compat with XFree.
OK, makes sense. I sort of knew xorg had replaces xfree, and that
sounds smart.
