There's also possibly a need for a setup screen to enable people to properly set their TV's brightness/contrast controls (or TV output).. This would include signals like PLUGE (for correct brightness & contrast) & colour bars (for correct colour temperature/saturation). This would be very simple to add into a setup menu, although calling external screen setup programs (e.g. nvidia-settings) might give rise to other issues (such as which program to call since not everybody uses the same graphics hardware).
That would be really cool integrated tv calibration tools. mpeg-2 test patterns for white level, blackness, sharpness. That would be slick.
