Hardware cards only I think.
#not i would say that this is a little overpowered. for the hardware
#encoder like pvr-x50 you definitely don't need much cpu on the
#backend. and for SDTV you won't be seeing more than 12Mbit/s so
#running 4 frontends on a 100Mbit connection is doable with plenty of
#headroom left over.
I have some spare 1000SX fibre cards, and my home network is all gigabit UTP
to the desktops and gigabit fibre to the servers - as this machine would
essentially be a media server I can attach it to a couple of the spare ports
in my media switches on their own VLAN.
Should eliminate any bottlenecks from the network side of things..
