I should have been more clear. I *can* transcode, but only using the built-in support to go from NUV to NUV (for removing commercials or editing content). What I *can't* do is export to other formats such as VCD. I used to be able to do this without installing MythDVD (my box doesn't have a DVD drive and I don't use it as a front-end anyway). I think the problem is that nuvexport relies on other packages that Debian tends to break or not include because of their no-patents policy. I've found alternate sources for ffmpeg, liblame0 and mjpegtools but apparently haven't found a set that will talk to each other and work with the other Debian packages. It would be REALLY NICE if the MythTV packagers (dijkstra et al) would include those dependencies that Debian sites refuse to carry so we could download matched sets.
