OK, so I'm out of luck recording the audio with the PVR-150. How about the sound card method... Will I be able to use a single soundcard to capture 5.1 via coax, and then output via optical? Will I need 2 soundcards in this box?
You won't be able to get the digital audio into the MPEG stream created by the PVR-150 so even if you record it to a separate file it would require some hacks to Myth to get it to play a different audio stream with the video recorded by the PVR-150 and it would be a near impossible (or, possibly, just flat-out impossible) to get it to sync audio/video throughout the recording.
What is your source, anyway? Are you sure it has 5.1? If it's a digital cable box, then your only real option for SDTV with 5.1-ch audio is firewire--which may or may not work with your cable company/STB/channel. If it's a digital satellite box, you're probably out of luck (don't know of any for which firewire works with Myth). If it's anything else, it doesn't have 5.1 (save some digital cameras, but recording "5.1 channels" with one mic, you might as well fake it on playback).
