Yeah, VCD won't work on an iPod, I tried that. My question was more about if there is something that needs to be compiled into ffmpeg to allow connections to fifos.
fifo's are just files. What matters is what kind of data coming coming out of the fifo, and in this case it's raw data, which should be a default option.
