You're confirming what other people have reported on other 64-bit
systems (ffmpeg a.k.a. "standard" is more CPU-efficient):

I can successfully play HD content without XvMC on my AMD64 3800+.  Keeping it both cool and quiet is another issue.  In fact, I finally went to a water cooler when the heat sink and fan couldn't cut it.
