Actually, the only reason I care about PCIe is because I plan on getting a higher end CPU and motherboard. Unfortunately, higher end motherboards with >3 PCI slots and a 10/100/1000 network interface typically don't come with an AGP slot. This box will not only be a BE/FE system, but it will also serve other FE boxes as well as being an LTSP server.

I had similar line of reasoning but since I intended to use an existing AGP card I *had* to find one with AGP. I opted for the Asus A8V Deluxe: socket 939, 5*PCI, AGP 8x, gigabit LAN, dual channel DDR 400 (4 slots), USB, firewire, 8 channel sound (digital and analog out, analog line-in), SATA, PATA. They even throw in a WiFi daughterboard (which is apparently supported under linux, or so the Asus manual says). Not that I wanted the latter, but it was free... So far I haven't installed it (case + powersupply haven't arrived yet) but it appears to be a pretty good deal (it was about 60 quid, IIRC).
