Couldn't you do a custom record specifying only the channel? That would match all shows minus duplicates. Someone asked a similar question a few months ago and there was another way to do it but I forget what it was. Bruce Markey posted the exhaustive answer.

Update to that. I now keep this handy in my record rules:

Rule Nane: Breaking News

channel.callsign = 'CNN' AND program.starttime < '2005-10-24 19:00:00'
Obviously, it's past Oct 24th but if some major event happens I
can go to Custom Record, "Edit Rule: Breaking News", Set the date
to tomorrow or the next day, click Record then Save. It will start
recording everything on CNN until 7pm on the date I chose and I
can change the date or time again later depending on how the news
unfolds.

For this rule I've set low priority, Don't match duplicates, Low
Quality profile to save space (talking heads and video phones),
"News" recording group, and don't flag commercials (if CNN is
running commercials, it isn't very big news =). By keeping this
rule I don't have to remember to set all these options again. I
just change the date, save and it's off and running.
