I am given the choice between MPEG2-PS or MPEG2-TS (along with some

Which should I choose and why?
I assume this is the same as for DVB-T. In which case you should choose TS.

Why:

1) If you choose PS you can get recordings which have no sound as
sometimes it selects the wrong audio signal in the broadcast. With TS
this problem never happens.

2) PS support is being phased out because it's problematic so you may
as well avoid it.
This advice doesn't apply for IvyTV. Because the Hauppauge PVR-x50's are creating the stream in the format you specify, Myth just dumps the stream to disk.

With DVB/ATSC, the stream is always transmitted as a Transport Stream (TS). Myth can (could) either dump the TS to disk or re-write it into a Program Stream (PS). It is the support for re-writing a TS to a PS on the fly that's being dropped. Myth will play back any MPEG-2 PS or TS.
