works correctly so I assume that one of the stereo channels is set as
default language channel when the bilingual transmission is detected.
Now it's up to me to look into xawtv source code to find out which
channel it is - either left or right, there is no more possibilities.
When I lived in Slovakia, there were duo TVs and non-duo TVs.
I doubt anyone serious would sell TV on the market that wouldn't know
the bilingual stuff. People would return such sets back to shop.
This is making me think that there may be some information transmitted in the VBI about the audio. If so, it's a much harder problem to deal with than just setting certain recording schedules to play back the left or right or both channels (i.e. always play only the left channel of the Simpsons and the right channel of the local news).

Unfortunately, IIRC, there's still no support for VBI in Myth with ivtv cards. Frame grabber cards can do captions/teletext, but I don't know if they do anything else with VBI. Therefore, if it is transmitted this way, it's unlikely that we'll get this automatic language support soon because it's reliant on a major feature addition.

So, does your XMLTV data contain language elements for programs broadcast in multiple languages? If so, it may be possible to include this information in the database so that we can short-circuit the autodetection process if the grabber provides language information (and, if the grabber gets the info wrong, you can always switch channels with the mute button).
