Hoping someone can help. I used to be able to transcode DVD's except it was insanely slow. Luckily, I was using a dual processor motherboard with a single processor in it, so I bought a matching pair and upgraded my kernel to 2.6.14-1.1644_FC4smp #1 SMP Sun Nov 27 03:39:31 EST 2005 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux. Now transcode doesn't work on anything other than Perfect.

mtd.log doesn't show anything unusual:
19:19:12: launching job: job dvd 1 4 7 0 -1 /mythtv/videos/ PEE_WEES_CHRISTMAS_SPECIAL 19:19:12: transcode command will be: transcode -i /var/lib/mythdvd/ temp/PEE_WEES_CHRISTMAS_SPECIAL/vob/ -g 720x480 -f 0,1 -M 2 -V -j 0,8,0,8 -B 0,2 -y xvid -w 1618 -a 3 -o /mythtv/videos/ PEE_WEES_CHRISTMAS_SPECIAL.avi --print_status 20 --color 0
19:19:12: job thread beginning to rip dvd title
19:23:20: job thread finished ripping dvd title
19:29:36: a client socket has been closed
19:36:06: a client socket has been opened
19:47:30: job finished succesfully: job dvd 1 4 7 0 -1 /mythtv/videos/ PEE_WEES_CHRISTMAS_SPECIAL

The GUI tells me it's copying the file to disk (which I see in my log and the file in my temp directory), then instead of the time remaining that I used to get, I now get "Transcode is thinking..."

top shows me that tcdecode and tcdemux are chugging away.

After a little while, it tells me it's done, but this is all I get in my output file:
cat PEE_WEES_CHRISTMAS_SPECIAL.avi
RIFAVI [EMAIL PROTECTED]((?? XVIDLISTjstrlstrh8auds?>????strfU???> ?LISTINFOISFTtranscode-1.0.1JUNK?LISTmoviidx1

Everything else is working as it did before (except faster) including watching videos, DVDs, recorded and and live TV. BTW: I'm running MythTV 0.18.1.

My best guess is that there's some kernel module I missed that I need to install. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Brad
