kde with mandrake 10.2. and no if i alt+tab out and back it it still
dosen't work :-(
so i dunno if it is a focus issue, also because my other 10.2 box works
fine.

Is it just a window focus issue? What window manager/desktop
environment are you using? If you Alt-Tab away from mythfrontend and
then back to it, do you get control back?
