You could make a small shell script that calls mythtvosd to display the current time and map the script to a button on your remote.

mythtvosd --template=alert --alert_text=$(date)


This was my first impulse but thought I would check before reinventing the wheel. :)

I don't want to exit the show I am watching just to see the time. It would be nice to see it in the OSD info.

    Currently, the only place to see the current time is in the OSD while
    watching a recording, in the EPG, or in MythWeather (there may be
    others, not sure).

    Someone recently submitted a patch to add a theme element for a clock,
    but I don't recall if it was committed.  Themes would need to be
    updated to include it on various screens, anyway.
