I have a question concerning the recent changes in LiveTV around the Ringbuffer. I'm very concerned that without significant hardware changes on my part I'll not be able to ever upgrade to the newer MythTV versions. This is based on what I've seen of the changes so far. Let me explain.
My recordings directory is a raid5 set which isn't the fastest in the world but can handle two SD recordings just fine - unless it's syncing. My live tv buffer is a raid0 of a couple disks - VERY fast. Now, after a power outage my raid5 array takes hours to sync again. That means if LiveTV is using that raid5 set I'm not watching TV for hours until the resync is finished. The raid5 set is almost 700gig - not something cheaply replaced (at least for me).
Another thing I'm considering is HD. If I attempt to vew HD content from my DVB card while streaming it to the raid5 array it can't really handle it too well - whereas with a separate live tv buffer it wasn't a problem.
Is there any plan to have support for a live tv buffer SEPARATE from recordings? I know the reason behind putting in this change and I agree with it, however, I don't see how I can ever upgrade with this in place as it is.
