I've been wondering this too. I'm now compiling 2.6.15 and would like to know which is the best Preemption Model for a dedicated MythTV box that runs both frontend and backend. In case it matters, I do use my MythTV box to record and play ATSC so my processor gets pegged pretty well.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi,

Just got as far as configuring kernel (2.6.13-rc6-git4) options for my
mythv system to be (I understand that the 2.6.13 release candidate is superior
to 2.6.12.x kernels).  There are some new choices here, one of which is
preemption model. Presumably aggressive preemption isn't great for things
like myth where a long running decoding task (for example) should be allowed
to keep using as much cpu as it needs at the expense of new processes.

What does the list think? There now appears to be a choice of three levels
of preemption.

Any other recommended kernel options that should be included/avoided?

Cheers
