Boy, I don't know if this will help, but I kind of have my HD performance surrounded:
I have reasonably identical boxes based on Biostar 201Vs, both with 512 Meg memory, nvidia 5200 video cards, etc. One has an Athlon XP 2900+ (sold via Tiger Direct a while back) running at 400Mhz, while the other has an Athlon XP 3000+, but the 333 Mhz version. Both have two sticks of 256Meg DDR 3200. The XP2900+ at 400Mhz can play HD (1080i) without XvMC. The XP3000+ at 333Mhz can't - unless I have XvMC on, it can't play the 720p that TV requires (both go DVI to the TVs). These are FC4 boxes.
